Last week, ChargeLab announced an offer to migrate commercial Enel X Way devices to our OCPP back-end for EV charger management. Today, we are thrilled to announce the successful migration of dozens of Enel X Way chargers to our network. We are also providing additional details about this process, given the uncertainty in the EV charging software industry over the past week.
For a walkthrough of one of the recently migrated sites, please watch the video below featuring ChargeLab CEO Zak Lefevre:
Technical challenges
Unfortunately, Enel X Way commercial EV chargers operating in the field are not simple OCPP devices that can be repointed to a third-party back-end. These chargers require a complicated reconfiguration process before they can be connected to a new charging station management system (CSMS). So far, ChargeLab is one of the only commercial CSMS providers that can successfully migrate JuiceBox Pro chargers by the October 11 deadline.
If you are speaking to another OCPP provider about migrating Enel X Way chargers, please ensure they have successfully migrated these chargers in the past few days and understand all the complexities involved.
ChargeLab's solution
Thanks to the diligent work of ChargeLab’s engineering team, we found a reliable method to migrate commercial Enel X Way chargers in record time. The migration involves back-end work from ChargeLab, in addition to on-site configuration steps that can be performed by a technician with a laptop or smartphone.
Below are some photos of a condo building in Toronto during and after the migration.
For site hosts who manage commercial EV chargers, after migration, you will log into the ChargeLab dashboard instead of the legacy Enel X Way portal. From ChargeLab’s dashboard, you can create pricing rules, restrict access, set up power management, download reports, and monitor your EV chargers 24/7. ChargeLab’s platform has configurable notifications to alert you if anything goes wrong with your EV chargers, as well as artificial intelligence for preventative maintenance.

For EV drivers, after migration, you will switch from the Enel X Way app to the ChargeLab web app. ChargeLab offers iOS and Android apps under our own branding and with multiple white-label partners. We also pioneered the industry’s first and best web app, enabling you to charge right from your mobile browser without downloading any mobile apps.

Network migration progress
As of the end of Monday, October 7, ChargeLab is in the process of migrating 612 Level 2 and DC fast chargers from Enel X Way’s commercial back-end. We expect to add hundreds more to our migration process throughout this week.
ChargeLab still has the capacity to migrate more chargers this week, thanks to the phenomenal work of our engineering, operations, and support teams. Please reach out to https://chargelab.co/contact to get started.
